Winter Camping and Snow Travel Skills Weekend in Lassen

camping tripCamping in the snow is fun!! It's no secret that the guides of the Outdoor Adventure Club are experienced and comfortable in the mountains. Join us on this educational weekend camping trip in Lassen National Park and learn the skills to help keep you warm and comfortable when you venture out into the wilds of winter!

 

The Trip:

The weekend will include a Saturday night camping out in the snow. You'll have the option of sleeping in a snow cave, or in an expedition tent rated for winter use.

 

Topics we'll cover:

  • Dressing for winter travel and camping
  • Secrets to staying warm at night
  • Efficient backcountry travel techniques
  • Navigation on snow, and during whiteouts
  • Building a winter camp
  • Cooking in the snow
  • Avalanche awareness, and companion rescue techniques
  • Emergency shelters, including snow caves

The class is ideal for all backcountry travelers, including snowshoers, skiers, and snowboarders. No snow camping experience is required for this fun, educational weekend in the snow!

Specific driving directions for the trip will come with your confirmed reservation.

 

Includes:

  • A professional guide, member of the American Mountain Guides Association, who holds a level II avalanche certificate from the American Institute of Avalanche Research and Education, and certified as a Wilderness First Responder
  • Friday night accommodations in our Lassen Ski House
  • The following meals: Saturday lunch and dinner, Sunday breakfast and lunch
  • Winter-ready tents
  • Group cooking gear
  • An optional, but strongly advised pre-trip meeting at Lombardi Sports in San Francisco

A complete gear list will be sent out with your confirmed reservation, but you should be prepared with your own sleeping bag, rated from 0ºF to 10ºF, a backpack, sleeping pad, snow transportation (snowshoes, skis or split snowboard) and personal avalanche gear (beacon, shovel and probe)

 

The Outdoor Adventure Club has some snowshoes, split boards and avalanche gear available to rent. Please inquire when you make your reservation.
