Pt Reyes Hike and Oyster BBQ

September 16, 2012

Hiking in Pt Reyes with the Outdoor Adventure ClubWhy Hike Alone? Meet like-minded outdoors-loving, adventurous folks on this fun day! Take a beautiful hike with us Point Reyes, burn a bunch of calories, and then refuel with oysters and other BBQ treats. On this day, we have two hike options, easy or moderate, both ending in a barbeque style picnic complete with local oysters from Tomales Bay.

HARDER HIKE OPTION:

On this option, we are going to hike an 11-mile loop in Point Reyes. The trail follows gently rolling terrain for a while, but then ramps up for a 1,400 foot climb up Mt. Whittenberg.

This hike is considered moderate to somewhat hard, due to the distance and elevation gain. Reasonably fit hikers who've hiked similar distances should be fine. Meeting time will be 9:00 am in Pt. Reyes (directions to come with your reservation). The hike will finish hiking about 1 pm, followed by lunch that includes an oyster BBQ.

EASIER HIKE OPTION:

This easier hike option takes us 8.2 miles along the Bear Valley Trail to Arch Rock in Point Reyes. Our trail is out and back, and will take us along gently rolling terrain with no more than a total elevation change of 400 feet. The Oyster BBQ with the Outdoor Adventure Clubtrail is incredibly beautiful as it takes you through various terrain, passes through coastal forests of Douglas fir and then past fernsthat adorn the creek we hike beside.

This hike is considered to be easy for those who are reasonably fit. It has 400 feet of elevation gain over the entire trail, which is very minimal. Hikers should be in good physical condition, and comfortable hiking similar distances. Meeting time will be 9:30 am in Pt. Reyes (directions to come with your reservation). The hike will also finish at approximately 1 pm, followed by lunch that includes an oyster BBQ.

This is always a treat for everyone! The Outdoor Adventure Club will pull out the BBQ and grill up some oysters, mussels, chicken and other treats (vegetarians accommodated, too) for a post hike "happy hour". Point Reyes and Tomales Bay are known world wide for their oysters, so it would be a shame to depart without sampling some.

The OAC will be offering both hike options on the same day, so whatever your fitness level, you'll have a group to hike with, and both groups will join together to enjoy the BBQ. Select your hike level and join us on the fun day!
