Hike at Castle Rock State Park in the Peninsula

Come to Castle Rock State Park in the Santa Cruz foothills West of Saratoga and explore the many loops and trails in this shady park. We've put together a great hike in this park for you. In the past, we have offered this as a 5 mile hike, but today we have extended the trek to include more of the Skyline to the Sea Trail. The majority of this hike is on narrow trails that border creeks and is canopied by Douglas Fir and mighty black and coast live oak.

This journey has many features: incredible vistas of Monterey Bay, opportunities to explore sandstone caves, and hiking on both worn paths and scrambling on rocky terrain. We’ll also stop and peek at the famed Goat Rock where rock climbers from the Outdoor Adventure Club are often seen showing off their skills.

We'll meet in the morning. Hiking time should be about 4-5 hours with a picnic lunch along the trail.

You'll need to bring:

A recommended gear list will come with your confirmed reservation, but you should generally be prepared with the following:

Clothes appropriate for the weather (avoid wearing cotton)
Appropriate footwear
2 liters of water
A small daypack to hold your water and spare clothing layers
